Questions about
Business:
We understand. All of our customers have been totally satisfied and many have placed more than one order. You'll have to trust us. This web site is not a trick! Lyrical Hair Corp. has established a solid reputation of honest service and our customers are fully satisfied.
You are ordering directly from the factory.By doing this we exclude retailers and can save your money..
Yes of course. Your complete satisfaction is guaranteed. You have to make the correct choices though. There are several things that can make your first custom hairpiece with a new firm less than perfect. This is the same for one bought in a salon or one bought via mail order. Any problems will be fixed, and if you think you have a unit that has failed to meet your quality expectations, you can have a refund. We never argue about refunds.
No. Our server is secure, and your credit card number is encrypted. We don't even get to see that number. Using the Internet's most trusted establishments, we have made you completely safe from fraud.
Of course you can, see the "Contact" page for telephone information. But as a mail order Internet firm, we do hope you contact us via email.
No! We have no interest in sharing your information with anyone, and we also dislike unsolicited email. Your privacy is never violated by Lyrical Hair Corp. and no-one learns who you are or how to contact you.
This depends on many factors. Your design choice may be a robust unit or a fine, delicate, barely visible unit. You may care for your unit like a supreme expert, or you may be too rough on it. Some clients get 3 months out of a unit, and others make it last well over a year without much deterioration. Our guarantee period is three months.
Yes we prefer to. If we have your template and color on file at the factory, your next order can begin production within a day or two, saving a lot of time.
We'd be glad and able to do so. Send it in. Save money.
All units sent in for duplication must be free of glue, tape and adhesive residue and must be shampooed clean, and completely dry.
You can send any brand of hairpiece for repair/remake. In general there are two things we cannot do. We do not offer recoloring and permanent wave (curling). Most other repairs can be done for a $75 flat rate plus shipping. However, the factory does not accept all repairs as some requests involve more labor than a new unit, but for a quarter of the price. In these cases we have to decline your repair request.
All units sent in for repair must be free of glue, tape and adhesive residue and must be shampooed clean, and completely dry.
Questions about
Base design:
Its a material like extra-invisible nylon stockings that is very hard to see when it is placed against the skin. The hair is knotted into the lace and appears to grow from the scalp. The front edge of a hairpiece is the most important area. It is the part that is always detected if you wear a bad hairpiece. Only a lace front can be trusted to maintain the illusion of growing hair.
Yes, we call it Poly Skin. Poly skin is good to use at the edges or if there is an area of mono or lace to let the scalp breathe. It is available in many tints.
Yes, unless your density is too high for lace. For densities of 80% and below, an all lace base is the best choice, but if you want thicker hair, say 90% to 130% density, there is not a lot of room on the lace for all those knots, so the knots become doubles and singles, and then the lace no longer feels so great to the touch. The 3# monofilament base with poly edges is by far the better choice if you have a density of over 90%. You can add a lace front and have a lighter density for the front edge, just like someone with their own hair would.
Extra Fine Swiss lace. Visually, it's the ultimate.
French lace is very hard to detect and quite strong.
Not by the customer, they need to go back to the factory and it's $75 + shipping.
There are no knots, which can appear as black dots inside the poly skin. Instead of tying in the hair, we inject the hair into the poly skin. These units cost us much more to make. Unfortunately this type of poly skin is not quite as thin as our normal thinnest poly skin. It is about 2MIL (2/1000 inches) thicker.
Our lace is very hard to see against any color skin including the palest and the darkest. It is neutral and transparent.
If you like that method of attachment, we won't even charge you for those clips. Remember to send a bigger template as the unit will have to overlap onto your remaining hair by at least 1/2". A good tip to avoid traction alopecia is to have the clips in different spots each time you get a new hairpiece.
For secure attachment, and for long term attachment when only the front is released, cleaned and re-bonded. It is not necessary to have this feature as adhesion is almost never an issue under normal circumstances.
Yes you can get the tiniest of partials and also pairs of temple partials. Normally partials are the same price as hairpieces, but if they are very small and all lace we can definitely give you a lower custom quote.
Yes and many people do!
Yes, absolutely. If you want full coverage for a hairless head, we offer full systems for $500. We can make the front edge and the front of the sideburns in lace for undetectability. We can also undervent the back neckline. There is a link to a wig measuring diagram on our "how to make a template" page.
It's a personal choice. Either Poly-With-Gauze or a double layer of lace work very well. Poly coated is a bit too thick and polyskin can tear and attaching polyskin edges to mono or lace results in a ridge at the join. If your density is 80% or over, poly-with-gauze is a very convenient edge choice. Extra light units are usually better off being all lace.
Questions about
Removal:
Adhesive should be released from the hair side of the lace, with Lace Release or alcohol. Spray or drip it through and wait for the bond to release before lifting the hairpiece away.
Basically peel it off your head slowly, but if it's strong tape such as blue, spray or drip alcohol or lace release between the skin and the tape to make it more comfortable to remove.
That's exactly what you want. Clean the glue off your head afterwards with Adhesive Remover.
Whichever you prefer.
You must completely release the bond to the glue or tape before you lift the lace up. If you just do this, you won't pull hairs out.
Clean off the Adhesive Remover, which is oil based, with Lace Release or alcohol and then neutralize the alcohol with water or shampoo and water. You can't stick adhesive to Adhesive Remover! The unit has to be dry also.
Release it more carefully prior to removal. You need the hair to stay in the hairpiece.
These products are clearly labeled with strong advice to avoid eye contact. Don't take risks with your precious eyes. You absolutely have to keep things out of your eyes. If your eyes sting, you are misusing the products and solutions.
Shampoo the unit, roll it in a towel and give it a quick shake.
Questions about
Attachment:
Everyone has their methods of choice. Generally, it is much easier to use tape. Glue is often the best choice for the lace front because you really can't see it.
Peel the split side from the center split and apply to base. Then peel the long side and apply to skin. This is the same rule for all of the tapes that we currently sell.
Yes, gaps between the tape strips will enable water and shampoo to drain out if you wash the unit in place.
If you have oily skin or you sweat a lot, one or two days. If you are dry and cool, much longer, but Lyrical Hair Corp. recommends frequent removal for hygiene reasons. Scalp odor is a disgusting thing!
Often, new wearers of hair place the unit too far forward. They think that looks okay, but people really don't have hair coming out of their foreheads. The hairline should begin where your natural hairline would have begun. That's at least three fingers above the furrowed eyebrows. Feel your head. Your fingers should tell you if they're on your forehead or at the front of your scalp.
Try a glue template. Make it in the same way as a fitting template, but make it for the forehead and temples so that just the hairpiece area will receive glue,(See picture below). Here we used an A-curve tape to mark our hairline and then made the template for the area in front of that. When you use the template to apply your glue, there will be no tape there of course.
Questions about
Cleaning:
The best way is to remove it, remove the remaining adhesive residue and then wash it and dry it. Details of each stage will be found beside the questions below.
It's one of the easiest ways to safely remove glue residue from those holes on the lace. Just push the bottom of the lace firmly against a mirror and slide it down the glass. The glue gets pulled out of the lace and deposits itself on the glass leaving the lace clean and clear. (This idea came from Robert in Colorado but we named it The Mirror Slide).
Even better than glass is Saran Wrap , also known as cling film. Put this on the mirror or work-surface first for a great mirror-slide clean up, and then throw it away, leaving the mirror clean.
But wait, there's more. The mirror slide also works on wax-paper and it even works on those clean brown paper bags they give you at the supermarket. (Thanks to Jeff in Michigan). Basically, rubbing the lace firmly down any of these surfaces will pull out all the residue. Who would have imagined that?
The Lace Release or any alcohol will remove the oil, and then you can rinse it out or wash the unit. This is important because the new adhesive won't stick to adhesive remover.
To prevent "wash-through", where some hairs make their way to the bottom side of the unit, drag or slap your unit through the lather in a sink of shampoo and warm or cool water. Rinse with the water going from bottom to top, and then roll the unit in a towel to absorb most of the water.
Please avoid gels and mousses containing alcohol. Most do and they will rapidly dry out and age your hairpiece hair. Hair serums are great for hairpiece hair and so are some creams and pomades, but avoid product buildup by using a clarifying shampoo occasionally.
Try one product at a time, but don't mix, for example, a silicone based substance like a serum with an oil based substance like hair cream. You might end up with strange feeling hair and have to wash it all out and start over.
Use the thinnest possible coat of liquid glue and let it dry before you push down the lace. If using tape, remove the unit more frequently so the tape doesn't get time to break down into sticky goo.
Everyone is different, but you may not be the first to notice you have scalp odor. Scalp odor is unacceptable and is probably unhealthy.
Avoid very warm or hot water. Wet the hair, apply shampoo and create the beginnings of a lather without vigorously lathering. Run a little more water over the hair to move the lather through your lace or monofilament to the oily scalp below and allow the lather to remain there for a while before rinsing.
Pat or blot dry very gently with a towel. Do not rub your hair with the towel. Do not comb wet hair. Tip: detergents such as shampoo don't clean, only the lather from detergents can clean. Lather!
Apply fresh, strong tape directly over the residue and press it on firmly using a blunt object such as a brush handle or your thumbnail. Release this new tape from the hair side of the lace and it should come off with most of the residue attached.
We can become so excited when we have beautiful long hair again that we are tempted to blow dry our hair. Heat is death to synthetic hair, and even human hair replacements are better off without the hair dryer ever coming near. Dry hair by shaking out a piece that you are not wearing, (don't do this if it's on, you'll shake up your brain!) or by rolling it in a towel. If you washed it in place, blot with a towel and your body heat should finish drying it out in no time.
Brushing a wet hairpiece can pull out many hairs. It'll be dry soon, wait until then, Use a vent brush which looks like spaced out plastic nails with blunt ball ends. Don't push it into the foundation, just gently comb through the dry hair and then finish by messing up with the fingers.
Don't go nuts with shampoos and conditioners. Wash the hairpiece in cool plain water whenever you can. Conditioner can loosen the knots and cause shedding which reduces the life of the hairpiece. It's best to use a tiny amount of mild shampoo and then put back the shine with a spot of hair serum or a leave-in conditioner
If the pH value is listed on the label, buy shampoo that is in the range of 4.5 to 5.5 pH. Ideally cream conditioner should not contain any of the following: Lanolin, polymers or heavy oils. These substances cause matting in human hair. Keep the cream conditioner off the knots if possible as it can eventually accelerate hair loss. Leave in conditioner is generally a good idea. Not conditioning at all will cause the hair to dry out and become tangled, as hairpiece hair does not receive essential scalp oil like your growing hair.
Many shampoos contain ingredients designed to help them sell. Common ingredients that make no difference at all include so-called proteins, botanical extracts, vitamins, provitamins, sunscreen, fruit acids, alpha hydroxy acids, humectants, antioxidants, and many other things that will be rinsed away with the lather.
Some things in shampoo do work.
Ammonium lauryl sulfate is another way of saying detergent or soap. Soap makes a lather and the millions of air filled bubbles remove grease and dirt from the hair and whatever else you wash with it. Soap on its own cannot clean anything. Its the lather that actually cleans you.
Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride is an ingredient that can close the cuticles and make the hair feel smoother and "bigger".
Dimethicone adds a coating to the hair and it is therefore a "conditioner".
Most after-shampoo conditioners contain a lot of useless ingredients also, but the dimethicone works.
Leave in conditioners can also help the condition of your hair temporarily, but don't mix, for example, a silicone based conditioner with an oil based conditioner. You might end up with strange feeling hair and have to wash it all out and start over.
Skin moisturizer can also be used as a leave in, but many are too thick and heavy.
Questions about
Coloring:
The hair in the hairpiece will take the color about three to four times faster than growing hair.
Generally, using a color that is one shade lighter will yield the perfect match for the hairpiece hair.
You should stay with green base ash colors if possible and you may add a few drops of a drabber such as "Red Out" to the mix.
Rather than mix a pack of color and throw most of it away, use professional products. Use any brand of developer in either 20% or 40% volume. Cream developer is less messy than liquid. Use professional color from a leading brand such as Clairol, L'Oreal, Wella, Revlon etc. Normally the mix ratio is 1:1 color gel to developer cream.
A non-metallic bowl, a nylon brush designed for hair dye application, a plastic or rubber comb, disposable gloves, and some hair dye remover in case you stain your ears and neck. Buy all at the beauty supply store.
Just brush the gel-like dye mixture onto your comb and then use the comb to direct the dye through the hair. Keep the dye away from the knots, the base, the lace and especially the polyurethane areas.
After 10 minutes or so, rinse the dye out under the tap from the bottom of the unit. Shampoo and condition.
To help you avoid staining the base or darkening the knots, just keep thinking about the money it will cost to replace the unit!
It seems the color fading can be successfully prevented to a large extent. One product that seems to work very well is Redken Sunshape Sun Milk. It contains a strong SPF sunscreen, is a nice styling aid, and smells nice too. Control experiments of one unit with, and one unit without, have not been tried here, but it seems to protect the hair from any noticeable sun fading. There may be similar products from other makers.
Yes. The bleaching will still help to hide the knot.
When a dark hair is tied to the base of a hairpiece with a knot, you can see a dark dot on the skin, especially when the base is lace. Lace cannot hide the knot in the same way a monofilament base does. Bleaching the knots, usually only done at the lace front, but sometimes all over, makes the knots hard to see, and it helps create the illusion that your hair is growing out of your head.
Questions about
Haircut:
The hair which hangs down the back and sides must be left long so that it will BLEND in with the customer's real hair. The customer's real hair should not be cut too short, or there may be a visible line where the hairpiece hair ends, and the natural hair begins.
Feathering in the back and side edges of the hairpiece hair with thinning shears or the by the method of your choice will ensure that there will be no distinct line to give away the fact that this customer is wearing a hairpiece.
Start an inch away from the base of the hairpiece, and thin 10%. Further out, thin another 10% and so on until there are just a few strands at the tip for the blend.
This blending will be so effective that any differences in color etc. will go unnoticed.
Cutting the top and front is of course just like a regular haircut, except that this hair will never grow, so err on the side of too long rather than too short. They can always come again for a further length reduction.
Don't thin out the top of the hairpiece as this will leave sticky-out hair and ruin the natural look and feel. It will thin itself out through shedding when it's not so new. Also the hair will behave itself more when it's been worn for a while!
Also, don't pull too hard when lifting for the cut as you might break the bond with that adhesive tape. Be understanding of your customer's feelings. Sometimes baldness can cause social anxiety, to say the least!
Lastly, thank you for using your skills to help create the wonderful new appearance of this client!
